A/Region: Impressive Turnout for Johnson & Johnson Vaccine – GHS

The large attendance for vaccination in two of the region’s districts, Kwadaso and Kumasi Metro, where the exercise began with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, has thrilled the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Many citizens were eager to obtain the vaccine, according to the Deputy Regional Director, Dr. Michael Rockson Adeii, who claimed in an interview that they began queuing at vaccination centres fairly early on Friday, August 13, 2021.

“Even though not all four districts were allowed to begin, the participation has been excellent. “In the morning, everyone lined up to obtain the vaccine,” he claimed.

In this round of Johnson & Johnson vaccinations, the directorate hopes to vaccinate 50,000 people in four districts: Kwadaso, Kumasi metro, Oforikrom, and Asokwa.

The four districts were chosen because they represent the virus’s hotspots in the area.

According to Dr. Adjei, the two districts that were unable to begin processes on Friday, Oforikrom and Asokwa, would do so by Sunday, citing difficulties in training operational employees for the delay.

“Today, Kwadaso and Kumasi metro districts began operations. The final two, Oforikrom and Asokwa, are expected to begin either tomorrow or Sunday. The vaccination has been given to all of the districts, but it comes with training.

People who had received the AstraZeneca vaccine tried to acquire the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, but “the mechanism we have is able to sort them,” according to Dr. Adjei, so they were advised to return and wait for their second AstraZeneca shot.

He expressed confidence that locals at each of the 20 vaccination centers will work together to make the procedure a success.

He also recommended residents to follow the COVID-19 protocols as closely as possible in order to lower the infection rate.
